Clear Pathways Inside Your Home

Get Rid of Items Your'e Not Moving

It’s assumed that everything still in your home will be moved to the new location. If you still have items in your home you don’t want to be moved, make sure you set them all aside in one location and convey to the movers that they won’t be moving that stuff.

It’s important to ensure your home is as easy to navigate for the movers as possible. You’ll also want to clear all walkways and set aside items that you wouldn’t like anyone loading onto the truck. Make sure you’ve provided adequate space for movers to move your items out of your home. Ensure that your staircases, parking space, pathways and hallways are clear and free from any obstacles that may be in the way.

Have a Plan

Know what can't go

Batteries, Household cleaning products, Corrosive chemicals or poisons, Lawn and garden chemicals, Flammables and explosives, Live animals or plants, Gas and oil products, Compressed gas cylinders, Wax candles, Alcohol, Illegal items or substances, Ammunition including gunpowder are prohibited. Please remove propane tanks and plan to transport live plants and personal items in your own vehicle.

Have a plan for where you would like your boxes and furniture be placed prior to your moving arriving. Boxes should be clearly labeled  with the room that it is destined for and you should know where they are going in your new home

Downsize and Declutter

Disconnect and Empty Appliances

Your refrigerator and freezer must be emptied out, cleaned, unplugged and left open to defrost at least 24 hours before you move. You will also need to turn off any gas connections and disconnect and drain the water lines from washing machines and ice-makers on refrigerators.

Before moving day, plan to sift through your possessions and decide what you don't want to bring with you to your new home. Donate or get rid of unwanted items. This will cut your moving costs considerably by eliminating excess junk that will be uselessly collecting dust at your new home.
